The Washington State Progressive Caucus, through it’s action plan in support of the Washington State Democrats Platform, wholly and enthusiastically endorses the call for Congress to enact a single-payer national health care system. The WSPC continues to work toward the passage of HR 676, and urges the Washington State Congressional Delegation to co-sponsor this legislation and companion legislation in the senate, S. 703. These bills call for the establishment of a United States National Health Insurance Act.
These bills are actively backed by organized labor, numerous community organizations, including nurses, doctors and other health care providers, and nearly 100 members of the House of Representatives. The majority of people in the United States are asking for reform that recognizes health care as a right, not the privilege of the wealthy and those whose employment affords them minimal coverage through insurance corporations.
The WSPC calls on health care advocates to contact members of congress demanding representation of the people in health care justice and reform by urging the enactment of this legislation.
Additionally, WSPC calls on all who seek equality of access and the freedom to choose care providers to attend the Health Care Rally on Saturday, May 30, in Seattle at 12:30 PM at Pratt Park, 18th and SE Yesler Way, for a rally and march to Westlake Park in downtown for the final rally.
